This post is shared from my lifestyle design blog for millennials, The Fab Life Project!

If I asked you what you think is one of the biggest barriers to people not truly believing they can build their life on their terms, I bet the first thing you would say is money. Well, money is definitely a big consideration, but in this episode of my podcast, I’m going to challenge you on that assumption.

I gotta warn you that this is one of those episodes that will get you caught up in your feelings.

As young professionals, and upwardly mobile millennials, we have been trained in one way or another to be driven by how we are perceived based purely on external signifiers of our success.

I’m talking about things such as the type of car you drive, how big your house is, the number of degrees you have, and the deeper stuff such as your job title and the name of the company you work for. Basically, all of the status quo things we all like to flex.

In the WTF is Lifestyle Design episode, we talked about how we’ve been trained to be soldiers of the status quo since day one. Not only were we trained to uphold it, but we were also trained to act in certain ways to make sure that others knew that we understood the assignment and we’ve been encouraged to judge those who seem to fall short.

And let’s be real: we like the tingly feelings of triumph that come with our success signifiers being noticed, but what do we do when there is a little voice asking us if this is it, if this is all, and most importantly, if this is the way we really want to live our lives?

We’ve worked hard for those tingles, so when we are faced with the pressure to keep up appearances, we yield, even if it might not be in the best interest of our peace, our sanity, or even more seriously, our health.

But, in this episode, we’re going to talk about how we can break through the pretense, the pressure, and the perceptions to tap into our true power to create a life we really want to live.

Prestige be damned.
